Grain storage safety advice
Topic sheets giving advice on the safe storage of grain are now available from the HGCA.
Integrated Grain Storage Strategies explains a cost-effective approach using grain drying and cooling to minimise pest numbers, so pesticide use is minimised. Regular monitoring of insect populations determines whether a surface pesticide is needed. Effective Phosphine Fumigation of Grain outlines a realistic option for treating infested grain in-situ. The new application technique uses gas held in cylinders to provide automatic dosing. It is currently awaiting PSD registration.
