Great evening and charity the beneficiary…
WHEN contact leader Eleanor Wellings of North Hereford group organises an event to raise money for charity she pulls out all the stops.
On a late summers evening I met her at Dilwyn village hall and we sat in the sunshine waiting for the speakers and helpers to arrive. Jill Oakle arrived with a fantastic array of dried flowers and the place was transformed. As the members arrived and took their seats it was heartening to see so many thirty-something year olds who had come along to see the demonstrations.
The first speaker was Jenny Lewis who made icing a wedding cake look so simple. She had chosen an unusual blue flower design so that those sitting at the back of the hall could see – the result was stunning.
Jill had baskets full of home grown dried flowers and she showed us the basics of how to do an arrangement for autumn. Handy tips were spraying the finished result with hairspray and using a hairdrier to remove dust.
Supper was served around small tables and it was good to see so many people enjoying themselves and knowing that St Michaels Hospice was going to benefit from the proceeds.
