Handler excise duty confusion resolved

CONFUSION regarding the status of agricultural material handlers – telescopic handlers, for example – has now been resolved.

The DETR and DVLA have at last agreed that these vehicles are not intrinsically different from tractors and, as such, qualify for the concessionary rate of Vehicle Excise Duty which is currently £40 a year.

It is a ruling that will also be welcomed by those who wish to use their handlers to tow trailers – under the previous ruling such machines had to be licensed as mobile cranes and were unable to be used for this purpose. &#42
