HGCA: UK wheat price down, export worries
-
UK delivered and export wheat prices were 1-2 lower over the week as concerns continue about export competitiveness.
LIFFE wheat futures are now around 2 lower than their recent mid-January peak. Sterling was around 1.5% stronger against the Euro over the week, with the Euro sub-63p on Thursday and Friday.
French wheat prices generally fell around 1 last week, adding to pressure on UK prices. UK export prices remain close to French export prices.
- October EU wheat exports revised
OCTOBER wheat exports were revised by Intrastat closer to trade estimates following queries regarding some data.
October exports to EU countries now stand at 330,000 tonnes, compared with an initial figure of 240,000 tonnes.
November barley exports to non-EU countries were also revised up to 43,000 tonnes from 28,000 tonnes.
- First monthly S&D figures
THE first of what will now be monthly revisions to the UK supply and demand estimates saw changes revolve around the lower crop production estimates published in January.
The wheat export estimate was revised down from 4.595m to 4.504m tonnes. Barley exports and intervention stocks were cut from 1.806m to 1.630m tonnes.
