History of field revealed

THE history of a 14-acre field in the Cotswolds is examined in The Guardian

Farmed for at least 2,000 years, production in the Horse Ground switched from cereal to sheep pasture in the late Middle Ages.

In the 1970s a move out of dairying ended almost 500 years of pastoral use and the field returned to arable cultivation.

Now, the newspaper reports, the Horse Ground yields intensively produced grain destined for pig and poultry feed.
