Holstein herd founded in 1946 is dispersed
ONE of the UKs oldest Holstein herds was dispersed in Crewe last week, selling to 2200gns.
Norfolk breeders Ralph Harrison and Partners saw its Wighton herd of 180-head produce an average of £1014 for cows and calved heifers.
The herd was founded by Mr Harrison in 1946, although he had been using Holstein bulls on his black-and-white cows since 1941.
Leading bid came for a dry cow, Wighton Diana Mr Vorwaerts, a VG 86 daughter of Vorwaerts and sold springing with her fourth to Ked Juror. She gave over 9000kg in her last lactation and heads for Yorkshire with * G Bean.
Volume buyers included Newton Hall Farms, Skipton who claimed 18 for its Eshton herd.
