Horny ram sires £1m-worth of lambs


THE public are to get a rare glimpse of a record-breaking Suffolk ram whose sexual career has resulted in the birth of more than £1 million-worth of lambs.

Pankymoor Prelude, will be showed at The Royal Show at Stoneleigh, Warwickshire, next week.

He was bought in 1993 as a six-month old lamb for 22,000gns (£23,100) – a record price at the time.

Pankymoor has fathered 189 top-flight rams and 350 pedigree daughters in a sexual career which has seen him travel roughly 5,000 miles to and from the farms of this three owners to mate with selected ewes.

The co-owners include farmer Robyn Hulme, Bruce and Kenny Mair, who run the Muiresk flock of pedigree Suffolks, in Aberdeenshire, and James Douglas who owns the Cairness pedigree flock in the same region.
