Horse scam farmer forced to repay £1,800

A FARMER from Stoneykird, Stranraer, Scotland, has been ordered to repay more
than £1,800 he received from the Ministry of Defence after claiming a horse
was injured when it was frightened by a low-flying jet.

Terence Westran, of Low Mye Farm, was also ordered to carry out 300 hours of
community service by the Sheriff of Stranraer.

He admitted fraud between 1 July 1991 and 28 February 1993 and defrauding the
Ministry of Defence. He had claimed a horse had damaged legs needing stitches
and the ministry paid out. But a police search of his home uncovered the plot
after the ministry became suspicious.
