HSE inspections to resume after F&M

ROUTINE health and safety inspections are due to restart after a 10-month gap because of foot-and-mouth. The Health and Safety Executive has confirmed it is returning to a full inspection programme in 2002.

It will also continue with its Safety Awareness Days. Linda Williams, HSE chief inspector of agriculture, said inspectors would offer advice to farmers and take enforcement action if necessary.

"Last year saw a rise in the number of fatal accidents to workers in the agricultural industry. The HSE will be aiming to reduce the number of accidents over the coming year by targeting premises and high risk areas of work." &#42
