Hunting re-start ‘down to farmers’

By FWi staff

FARMERS will determine the future of hunting with hounds, according to a story in the Daily Telegraph on Tuesday (18 September).

The Council of Hunting Associations claims that hunting will remain banned until farmers are happy for the sport to resume, the newspaper reports.

A risk assessment is being compiled by civil servants from the Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, it adds.

“Hunting bodies expect that it will say the sport may resume under strict conditions in counties that are free from disease,” the Telegraph says.

But the paper warns that: “The sports ruling bodies will have to be satisfied that safety measures are in place.

“Individual masters also will have to determine that a majority of farmers are prepared to have the sport resume in each hunt county”
