Hunts resaddle on Boxing Day
By FWi staff
FOUR out of five of Britains hunts were be back in the saddle in time for the traditional Boxing Day meet, claim hunt supporters.
The Countryside Alliance said more than 250 out of 312 hunts had licences to resume hunting in time for the biggest meet day of the year.
Simon Hart, director of the alliances Campaign for Hunting said: “Things are getting back to normal following foot-and-mouth.”
Mr Hart said support for a hunting ban was at its lowest for ten years. A recent poll for Channel 4 showed less than 50% supported a ban, he added.
Opponents of hunting have consistently claimed that their mandate for a ban is based on overwhelming public opposition to hunting.
Not only do the public not feel that a ban is needed or justified, but also that expert veterinary opinion considers it would be bad for animal welfare.
