Iceland founder set for dual role

MALCOLM WALKER is set to return as chief executive of food retailer Iceland, reports The Times.

This follows the shock resignation of Stuart Rose, the companys chief executive of only four months.

Mr Rose, who heads for the Arcadia fashion group, was previously chief executive of Bookers cash and carry, which has been merged with Iceland.

Iceland founder Mr Walker is expected to take the role of chairman and chief executive of Iceland in the medium term.

He had been planning to reduce his involvement in the chain, winding down his role as chairman, reports The Guardian.

Iceland has put itself to the fore of the food-safety debate, banning GM material in own-brand items and making a massive switch to organic produce this year.

This month, it told shoppers that it plans to remove UK-produced meat from its shelves to make way for organic imports.

Meanwhile, Waitrose is to step up efforts to lure home shoppers with a five-tier delivery and collection service, reports the Financial Times.
