Iceland lobbies against GM foods in newspaper ads
ICELAND, the frozen food retailer, has urged people to lobby supermarkets and MPs for the segregation of modified crops so that products can be guaranteed unmodified.
It makes the appeal in an advertisement in newspapers which claim consumers are being treated as “guinea pigs” for genetically modified (GM) ingredients.
It says people are eating such products without knowing it, even though the long-term effects are unknown.
Iceland guarantees from today that its own-label products will contain no GM substances. Financial Times 01/05/98 page 10
