IN BRIEF
uBEEF and veal imports from other EU countries have levelled off, but at an historic high. Latest Intrastat figures show that in November, 6150t came in, almost the same as 12 months earlier – 50% up on the same month in 1995. Imports from the main source, the Republic of Ireland, fell back slightly, down 3% to 4066t. That still accounted for two-thirds of imports from the EU, and the slight fall was offset by higher volumes from the Netherlands and Germany.
