&#8226 A LIST of 48 suppliers in the United States and Canada who can supply non-genetically modified soya has been published.

Junior farm minister Jeff Rooker said he was committed to the principle of consumer choice and welcomed the list which, he hoped, would help smaller UK food firms.

In January, after meeting interested parties to explore options for sourcing non-GM soya, Mr Rooker said the US and Canadian authorities were approached and provided information for the list.

MAFF could not say what volume of soya the 48 firms might be able to provide.
