• SECOND advance payments for sheep annual premium have been set at £4.98 by Brussels, less than the £5.45 first advance which went out in July and August. The second payment is due to go out in November. Brussels is currently assuming a full 1998 ewe premium of £16.60, which suggests a further £6.17 to come next year. The actual amount will depend on market price movements for the rest of this year.
• SHROPSHIRE-based Lloyds Animal Feeds is claiming to be the UKs fourth largest retailer following its acquisition of the 60,000t Stonegate Farmers feed mill at Langport, Somerset, and the signing of a deal to supply all 50,000t a year feed requirements to egg producer JA & O Griffiths. Total output now stands at 350,000t a year.
• DALGETY has sold its 75,000t Carmarthen feed mill to Welsh Feed Producers – a joint venture company set up by Wynnstay & Clwyd Farmers and Clynderwen & Cardiganshire Farmers.
• A NEW joint venture company, Eurofresh Potatoes, has been formed by Eurofresh Marketing, Caithness Potato Breeders and Chennels Farms to develop production techniques and markets for speciality organic potatoes. *
