IN BRIEF
IN BRIEF
• ORGANISERS of the Game Fair have confirmed that it will still take place this year, but the venue has been moved to Shuttleworth Estate near Bedford because of foot-and-mouth concerns near the original venue of Woburn Abbey. The event, one of the few remaining in the show calendar, will run from July 27-29.
• THE NFU in the West Midlands is urging farmers and contractors to "put safety first" when they are disinfecting premises affected by foot-and-mouth. The reminder follows a tragic accident on a farm in Leicester where a man was killed in a fall while carrying out cleaning operations. Advice produced by the Health and Safety Executive is being made available through the NFUs regional offices and on NFUnet.
• EX-ARMY aviator Tony McMahon has been appointed chief executive of the Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution. Mr McMahon was formerly chief environment and safety officer for the army and has most recently been involved in co-ordinating army support for MAFF during the foot-and-mouth crisis. *
