India to restart onion exports
INDIA , the worlds largest producer of onions, is preparing to lift a five-month-old export ban on the vegetable.
The ban was imposed following a shortage of onions.
But export restrictions have become redundant as the country is harvesting a bumper onion crop and the prospects for winter production look bright.
The surplus is expected to run out at 1m tonnes over domestic consumption.
The ban is expected to be lifted once a new federal government is installed following the parliamentary elections.
