Indian wheat prices fall

INDIAN wheat prices have fallen 20% in the past couple of months following a bumper harvest.

Record quantities of pulses were harvested and gram production, the most important of Indian pulse crops, also climbed.

The countrys total agricultural production, of which food grains comprise 62.9%, increased by 6.8% in 1998-89, following a fall of 5.4% in the previous year.

Production of nine important oil seeds will be up 2.01m tonnes to 22.59m tonnes, according to the Central Organisation for Oil Industry & Trade.
