Inspectors have 267 reasons to call

A STUDY by Manchester University for the Federation of Small Businesses details the ever-expanding activities of inspectors in industry.

Inspectors now have the right of entry to business premises under 267 different statutes. There are more than 24,000 staff associated with inspecting businesses and they made 466,000 inspection visits last year.

Listed under the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food are inspectorates for: Horticultural marketing, plant health and seeds, sea fisheries, agricultural wages and meat hygiene.
