Integration program
INTEGRATED grain store management should now be easier to achieve thanks to the launch of new computer software developed with funding from the HGCAs grower/merchant levy.
The Integrated Grain Store Manager software package is more than an encyclopedia of research documents – it is a complete decision support system, says the CSLs Dean Cook.
The programmes four sections help farmers meet todays market demands for safe storage of grain, explains project leader David Armitage.
The comprehensive encyclopaedia section provides extensive information on the whole storage operation, from pre-harvest store hygiene to treating grain in store for mould, explains Mr Armitage.
A helpful step-by-step pest guide leads the farmer to correct insect identification. And growers can use the problem solving section to obtain advice and make risk predictions on individual store situations. Simulation models go further, enabling forecasts to "what if" scenarios.
"The requirements of assurance schemes should be met by the Quality Reporting section," says Mr Armitage. "This area of the programme enables farmers to keep permanent records of store condition, treatment and equipment together with results of regular grain monitoring."
Tools within the package are also available to ensure correct decisions are made when drying grain, and calculations included to determine net weights post-drying or cleaning.
Integrated Grain Store Manager is available to HGCA levy payers at £49.99 + VAT.
Computerised guidance on grain store management is the aim of new HGCA-funded software written for growers, says CSLs Dean Cook.
