Irish beef semen finds UKdistributor

BEEF semen from North Western Cattle Breeders of Sligo, Eire, is now being distibuted in the UK by Rumsden Charolais.

Heading the stud is a Charolais bull, imported from France, called New. He is a son of Hermes, rated top bull for muscle in Ireland and this summers most popular bull of all breeds for insemination in Eire, says the company.

News son, Beechdale Rambler, won his class at Perth in February 2001 and was sold to an AI company in Northern Ireland.

The latest addition to the stud is Olmeto, a son of Paris Show Champion Major – full brother to Grimaldi. Olmeto is an embryo transfer calf and the British Charolais Cattle Society are looking to import semen from Oscar, another bull from that flush.

Top Simmental bull at Sligo is Freighduff Brendan, sire of the Corrick KentuckyKid, who sold for an extraordinary 21,000gns. Brendan is said to be exceptionally well muscled.

Limousin bulls from Sligo are also available. New and Olmeto semen costs £30/dose and Brendan costs £25/dose (01892-653332, www.britishcharolais.com).
