Irish grain fraud case in court

BELFAST High Court was told how alleged smugglers supposedly carried out a £1.1 million fraud by taking grain into the northern side of a barn straddling the Irish border, then removing it in a trailer registered in the Republic, exempting it from import levies.

John Byrne, 48, of Dundalk, Co Louth, was refused bail. He is accused of conspiring to defraud the UK Intervention Board.
