Its good to talk – stress network

By FWi staff

PICK up the phone this festive season and ring someone you know has had a tough time over the past year, says the Rural Stress Information Network.

Caroline Davies, RSIN director, said she would like people to take time to call someone up. “Everyone can do something this Christmas,” she added.

“Ring someone you know who has had a rough time this year – just for a chat. You can make a difference.”

Ms Davies said Christmas could be a difficult time for many people. With this in mind the RSIN helpline offers 24-hour cover over the holiday period.

“Our rationale is that, although calls from people in distress have fallen in number, those ringing now are in desperate situations,” said Mrs Davies.

“We fear that many more are not ringing: perhaps aware of the growing feeling of relief that foot-and-mouth appears to be over.”

The organisation does not offer financial help but can point callers in the right direction to find it. It is staffed by knowledgeable volunteers.

  • The helpline is on 02476 412916. It will be open 24 hours from 5pm on Friday, 21 December to 9am on Wednesday, 2 January. If the line is busy, callers are asked to keep trying or try the Samaritans on 08457 909090
