JF header attaches direct to harvester
Denmark revisited. Andy Collings continues his report from
the Agromek machinery event held last week in Herning
MORE so than other countries, Denmarks farmers have a reliance on whole-crop silaging and require their forage harvesters to be equipped with a direct cutting attachment.
Latest development on this score comes from JF, which is now offering a 3.2m (10.5ft) wide, eight-disc cutting header that can be attached to its trailed FCT 1350 forage harvester.
JF has had smaller versions before, but the company is keen to point out that this larger version has little if any extra transport width than earlier models. On the road its width is 3.3m.
Made with no space consuming outer gearbox, the drive comprises a vertical shaft going down to the first disc which then starts the drive line to the rest of the discs. Included in the header is a feed paddle and an auger to bring the cut crop to the foragers feed rolls.
The header can also be used for direct cutting of grass silage, a system used by Danish farmers when bad weather means there is little chance for the crop to be wilted. Power requirement for the header/FCT1350 combination is about 200hp.

A preference to whole-crop silaging in Denmark has led JF to develop this 3.2m wide direct cut attachment.
