Klassik models add to the Keenan feeder mix

KEENANs range of diet feeders moved into the Klassik zone at the Royal Show with the introduction of the Klassik II models, which offer capacities from 7-20 cu m.

Divided into two types, the EF is a pure feed mixer, while the FP is able to chop big bales and mix.

Both have rotating paddles set at a slight angle, an arrangement which not only helps to move material along the mixer but also helps cut power input for the machine.

The chopping version (FP) has paddles with triangular shaped blades set in the main barrel of the mixer and castellations in the paddles to allow them to push uncut material into them.

Once mixed, a full-length door opens in the side of the chamber to expose a horizontal auger which draws feed to an exit hatch at the front.

When compared with earlier mixers, one of the main differences is that the exit door is now lowered to open it rather than raising it. This means that, bearing in mind the upward sweep of the paddles which feeds the auger, the door can now be shut before the mixer is empty. Previously it was impossible to shut the door.

This means the mixer can now be used to feed small batches of animals and part loads can be remixed with other components to suit different classes of livestock. There is also greater control of the feed exit.

Having the door operating rams below rather than above enables the loading height of the mixers to be lower, by 15cm (6in).

Not much, but Keenan believes that with ever smaller farms using feeder wagons, this lower height could enable skid steer loaders or smaller capacity tractor loaders to be used to fill the mixers. &#42
