Kosovo faces BSE risk, warns expert
WAR-TORN Kosovo could be facing the prospect of BSE among its cattle, an expert on prion diseases has warned
Farmers have started taking delivery of livestock to replace the 200,000 animals killed or stolen during the war.
Among countries which have donated animals is Switzerland where BSE has been found.
Dr. Bruno Oesch of Swiss company Prionics, which researches prion diseases, estimates that two BSE cases could already be in Kosovo.
And he fears the risk could be higher in cattle from other European countries without testing programmes, reports BBC Radio 4 Farming Today programme.
