INCREASING farm profits, through food chain alliances between farmers and processors is the way forward for Keenan customers in the future. Keenan food chain alliances are the new fourth dimension of the Keenan System, adding to the Keenan feeder, machine service and Keenan nutrition.
Keenan food chain alliances
It was by working with beef farmers to produce meat of the required quality that Keenan developed the fourth dimension of the Keenan System – food chain alliances.
These alliances are based on a partnership between Keenan, its customers and food processors (eg, cheese, beef). The aim is to work together and produce on a consistent basis the required product to meet market demands on a year-round basis. Therefore, total profitability is increased by achieving target quality, prices and reducing production cost.
New specific markets offer even greater opportunities. In Ireland, for example, Keenan customers belonging to the Keenan/Kepak Beef Club supply beef to the Mediterranean market on a year-round basis that cannot be supplied by traditional feeding methods. This is returning a premium price of £85/animal.
Working with cheese processors in the UK, Keenan customers are supplying milk of consistent high quality to lift hard cheese yield by 8-10%, and soft cheese yield by an impressive 35%, returning a higher milk price to the farm.
