Legal battle over fur farm ban?
THE European Fur Breeders Association is threatening to launch a legal action against the UK government over its proposal to ban fur farming by the end of 2002.
Wim Verhagen, chairman of the association, said there was no scientific grounds for the ban.
Fur farming will be banned within two years in England and Wales on “public morality” grounds. Compensation for the 11 farmers affected is to be pegged at £2 million.
The National Farmers Union is expects a “full and fair” deal for the farmers
The ban is also opposed by the British Fur Trade Association.
