Leptospirosis warning

LEPTOSPIROSIS in pigs is more common during the spring and autumn and producers should be watchful for symptoms.

Yorkshire-based vet Neville Kingston advises producers to watch for symptoms of the disease which in pigs include irregular returns, discharges and abortions.

"Where these factors are linked, blood profiling will be necessary to establish the presence of the disease before a course of treatment is prescribed.

"Basic hygiene and management should be reviewed on each unit to help counter any future outbreaks," he adds.
