Lingrain and Group Cereals to merge

By FWi staff

TWO grain marketing companies, Lingrain and Group Cereals Services, are set to join forces in the New Year to create Centaur Grain, a 1.3million-tonne business.

The new company will be jointly based at Boston, Lincolnshire, and GCSs former headquarters in Andover, Hampshire.

According to GCS chairman Richard Beldam, the merger will give the new company the scale and geographical spread it needs to compete in the current marketplace.

And this will enable it to negotiate higher prices for its members products.

“We will be more effective in the market place because we can now offer big buyers the scale and geographical spread they require.

“Enlarging the business is also a good way to control costs. But the aim is to get a better price for members product, through an improved bargaining position.”
