Lovely west weekend…
By the time I arrived at the Livermead House Hotel, Torquay, most of our party of nearly 120 members and husbands had arrived for the weekend. It was good to see so many familiar faces as well as new ones at this annual get-together.
On Saturday morning more than half the party set out to walk through the country park to Cockington. It was almost a spring morning but you could tell from the muddy pink ponies and a pink West Highland Terrier we saw that the red earth of Devon was very wet. At the Drum Inn, which had been forewarned of the invasion, two log fires blazed to welcome us for a pub lunch before our return to the town centre to explore the shops.
The Livermead House Hotel did us proud on Saturday evening, a sumptuous gala dinner with music for dancing afterwards. The atmosphere was great with friends old and new enjoying this first break of the New Year.
On Sunday morning the sun shone even more brightly which was just as well as we had one coach to run a shuttle service to Babbacombe for the morning. The early birds had a walk along the cliff top before joining the others to visit the model village or Bygones – both fascinating places to while away an hour or two.
Comments ringing in my ears as I left were: "The best weekend yet and where are we going next year?"
It will probably be Cambridge this time next year but a London weekend is planned for November and another walking weekend in October. Watch this space for details.
