Maedi-visna test available
MAEDI-visna can now be monitored in commercial flocks to prevent the disease spreading.
Speaking at the launch of the monitoring scheme, SAC vet Barti Synge explained that two in 1000 sheep were now infected in commercial flocks. Though this level appeared to be insignificant the disease was highly infectious and there was no cure.
"We cannot, therefore, afford to be complacent about MV which has caused huge losses in other countries and is now affecting a growing number of UK flocks," said Mr Synge.
