Maize choppers get kernel cracker unit
Kemper Champion 3000 tractor mounted – reverse drive – maize choppers can now be fitted with a new kernel cracker unit (right).
Rather than employing fluted rollers, the new processor uses wedged shaped cracking discs. Kemper says this allows the width of the unit is minimised – to less than 40cm – but the cracking surface area is more than doubled.
Drive for the processor is taken from the chopping driveline via belts – when working in grass the unit is blanked off.
The manufacturer also says a longer chop length can be used which results in 20% higher output. *
