Manage National Parks holistically

AN environmental land management package, based on whole-farm plans, should replace support for intensive production, says the Council for National Parks.

Launching an agenda for action, the CNP argued for a land management package based on the national park farm schemes and Tir Cymen in Wales.

Leading environmentalists Jonathon Porritt and CNP president, Sir Chris Bonnington, told members of the House of Lords that agricultural intensification had been identified as one of the seven unsustainable trends damaging the parks. They claimed current agri-environment schemes conserved some features but led to more intensive production elsewhere.
