Manitou loader has greater efficiency

A NEW pivot steer telescopic loader has been unveiled by Manitou. The MLA 628T 120LS, based on the existing MLA 628T, has an extra 16hp provided by a 122hp turbocharged Perkins block.

Although maximum lift capacity and height remain at 2.8t and 5.2m, the unit is fitted with a variable displacement piston pump rated at 138 litres/min rather than 100 litres/min from the gear pump fitted on the MLA 628T.

Assisted by compensated pressure valves, the new load sensing pump is designed to automatically supply oil flow "on tap" to meet demand.

"This achieves greater operating efficiency and enables all boom functions to work simultaneously to reduce cycle times," explains Manitous Chris Morley. "Pivot steer loaders represent a fifth of the 1700 telehandlers sold each year into the UK agricultural industry. And with the pivot steer market set to grow by 85 machines a year, the MLA 628T 120LS is an important development."

For transmission the loader sports a Clark Hurth torque converter with a four, rather than six-speed powershift – together with a beefier pair of axles.

Use of reduction hubs with lower ratios reduce top speed from 40kph to 30kph.

To gain better traction on sticky ground or when going into heaps of silage, a "Kickdown" button on the joystick and shuttle can be pressed to select a lower gear.

"The 628T 120LS also features a new quieter cab with wider doorways, improved instrumentation and new latching for both doors," adds Mr Morley. "Improved engine access for maintenance has been achieved using a wider and restyled polycarbon bonnet."

List price for an air-conditioned 628T 120LS is £48,000. &#42
