Meat workers blockade French cities

ANGRY French meat workers have blockaded roads around major cities, demanding compensation for the BSE crisis hitting the country.
About 500 lorries and 1000 demonstrators barricaded roads around Paris, Toulouse, Bordeaux and Lyon, reports The Daily Telegraph.
Protesters, who brought traffic to a standstill, have threatened to close all abattoirs next week unless their demands are met.
The meat industry says it has been devastated by a lack of BSE testing facilities, which has led to shortages of beef in France.
