Meldrum says nothing on alleged cover-up

Keith Meldrum, the governments former chief veterinary officer, has submitted 271 pages of evidence to the BSE Inquiry. But he has said nothing about allegations that he helped create a cover-up at the height of the BSE crisis.

Mr Meldrum, who will give evidence in person to the inquiry on Monday, is said to have failed to pass on information about the failure of a ban on offal entering the human food chain.

Sir Kenneth Calman, the governments former chief medical officer, attacked Mr Meldrum this week saying that he knew the ban was not working.
