Merlo adds two telescopics
Merlo adds two telescopics
MERLOS latest entry into the telescopic loader market comes in two forms – one with a new low level cab to provide a 2m (6ft 6in) roof height and another with a standard cab with a height of 2.15m (7ft 2in).
The P 26.6 LPT and SPT models, which replace the P 26.6 EVT, are both powered by 4-cylinder Perkins 1000 series engines rated at 114hp. As with other Merlo machines, the engine is mounted longitudinally and power transferred hydrostatically to a motor driving the front and rear axles via propshafts.
It is an arrangement which enables the company to build a machine which is not unduly wide, yet, it is claimed, provides an efficient transfer of power. New axle designs have raised ground clearance to a useful 50cm (20in) and, as expected, four-wheel steer is supplied as standard. Outside turning radius when pallet forks are attached is 4.55m.
In terms of capacity the P 26.6 can lift 2.6t to a height of 6m using its two stage boom. Maximum capacity at full horizontal extension is put at 1.3t.
A tryout of the new level cab reveals a roomy operating area which its low level height would, at first glance, belie. Controls are thoughtfully laid out and should pose little problem for an operator working long days. *
