Mickerra herd pulls in bids

CHESHIRE dairy farmer Mick Hughes, who intends to spend more time developing his Spread-a-bale farm machinery, dispersed his Holstein herd to a top of 3600gns last week.

His Mickerra herd, based at Tattenhall, near Chester, included 100 cows in the top three grades with six classified as Excellents and 31 as Very Goods.

North Wales breeders E Owen and Sons of the Eyri took three lots. Their top call of 3600gns came for Mickerra Prelude Amanda, a 1994 cow with a best yield of 13,701kg, and two at over 12,000kg.

Minutes earlier Messrs Owen had paid 3200gns for Mickerra Prelude Gaye 4th, a fifth calver springing to Risecrest Marshall and with a best of 11,300kg.

Completing the trio for the Owens was Mickerra Rudolph Victoria 4th, a 1998-bred cow out of a dam by RC Matt. She was inseminated in March to Genus Jayson and cost 3100gns.

Stoke-on-Trent buyers K and M Ede gave 3500gns for the Emprise Bell Elton daughter Mickerra Elton Fantasia.

Averages 180 cows and milking heifers £925, 39 served heifers £541, 23 maiden heifers £530, and two bulls £945 (Wright Manley). &#42
