Mid-strife crisis
CHIEF executive of dairy event organisers the Royal Association of British Dairy Farmers, Philip Gilbert, admitted that the fuel crisis nearly ruined the European Dairy Farming Event.
"It was a close run thing. We began to become concerned when the country was gridlocked, but by Thursday petrol tankers were beginning to leave depots."
But it seemed that any thoughts of postponing the event were not considered. "The show is planned so far in advance, it would have been very difficult to postpone or cancel it."
