Milk Group buys Lubborn Cheese

FARMER-OWNED milk supply business The Milk Group has acquired Somerset-based specialist soft-cheese maker Lubborn Cheese.

Chief executive Robert Audas believes the future lies in high-value dairy processing rather than in the high-volume commodity sector.

The company already has an 80% stake in Nene Valley Foods.

He hopes that within the next year over 15% of the companys milk volume will be processed in its own plant and 50% of profits will be derived from dairy processing and manufacturing activities.

New members will be sought south of the M4 to expand Lubborns production.
