Milk urea test can check on ration

ON-FARM milk urea testing can help pinpoint whether the dairy ration is effective, claims Eder-Wolfmair, the supplier of an Austrian DIY analysis kit.

Milk from the bulk tank or from individual cows can be tested by shaking it for 3min in a test tube containing a chemical. The colour change indicates any excess or deficiency in the energy-protein balance, says Eder-Wolfmair.

Each milk test costs £1.25 (01761-434352).
