Milky cows attract dairymen
WEST country dairymen gathered near Dorchester for the 10th home sale from Bernard and Valerie Frys prize winning Littlebredy herd of Holstein Friesians where prices reached 1450gns.
The herd has an average yield of almost 9000kg from 150 milkers and it was a third calver with a 10,000kg yield behind her and a last lactation value of £1774 that topped the day.
Littlebredy Annie 15th, by Maple Wood Liberty, was bought by Messrs Ellis, Rampisham, Dorset.
Other cows reached 1000gns and calved heifers achieved a best of 800gns for one by Celcius giving 30kg a day. Young bulls sold well to 880gns for a 15-month-old son of Startmore Rudolph. Buyer was J Down, Chard, Somerset.
Averages: 14 cows £726; five in-calf heifers £546; three-in-calf cows £535; 25 calved heifers £614 and five young bulls £772. (Greenslade Taylor Hunt) *
