Minister listens at the Royal Highland

AGRICULTURE minister Nick Brown continues to win friends in the industry by using his ears, according to a report in The Herald on the Royal Highland Show.

Mr Brown visited the showground at Ingliston on Friday (25 June) and met Jim Walker, president of the Scottish National Farmers Union.

Although Mr Brown was unable to come up with an extra £40 million subsidy requested by Mr Walker, he “continued to win by his willingness to listen”, says the paper.

Meanwhile, the Cattle Interbreed Championship pulled in one of the largest ringside audiences at the Highland for 13 teams of four from the various breeds.

Charolais came out on top ahead of a shortlist including Beef Shorthorn, Aberdeen-Angus, Galloway, Simmental, Limousin, Blonde and Belgian Blue.

The best animal in the entire show went to an Aberdeen-Angus.
