Minister told to tackle rural poverty
SOME sixty councils are to urge the government to set up a Rural Taskforce to end the “raw deal” for people living in the countryside.
The Rural Services Partnership, a coalition of councils covering some of the most sparsely-populated areas of England, wants economic and social problems tackled.
It is to deliver a letter to Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott, the minister for the department of the environment, transport and the regions.
