Ministers ‘misunderstand’ gene crops

By FWi staff

GOVERNMENT advisers on biotechnology have pledged to tackle a lack of understanding among ministers about public opposition towards GM crops.

The Agriculture and Environment Biotechnology Commission said it hoped to improve the governments understanding of public opinion on GM crops.

As part of its work plan, the group has said it will make recommendations to help the government improve its decision-making processes.

An inquiry will look at the effectiveness of public consultation between government, commercial organisations and the public over GM crops trials.

It will assess how well the evaluations match public concerns.
