Monsanto produces blue GM cotton
AGRICULTURE biotechnology giant Monsanto has found a way to produce naturally blue cotton by transferring a gene from a blue-flower plant into a cotton plant.
The new development will spell the end of toxic dyes for cotton and will be aimed at the blue jeans market which is worth $10 billion in the USA and £800m in the UK.
The new cotton is scheduled to be available from 2005.
