MPs’ free vote on mink hunting
By FWi staff
HOME secretary Jack Straw has proposed an amendment to the Hunting Bill which would allow hunting mink with dogs to remain legal.
MPs are to be given a free vote on the concession, following complaints by Labour MP Lin Golding, reports The Daily Telegraph.
She warned that banning mink hounds would lead to mink numbers growing and indigenous species suffering.
The 20 existing packs of mink hounds in England and Wales kill an estimated 400-1400 a year.
Concessions have also been published removing the ban on hunting rats and rabbits, which MPs had claimed would make the use of terriers underground illegal.
