New pre-em herbicide for winter OSR

By FARMERS WEEKLY staff

WINTER oilseed rape growers are being offered a new pre-emergence herbicide for broad-leaved weed control this autumn.

Centium 360CS, from manufacturers FMC, has been recently approved by the Pesticides Safety Directorate and contains 360g/litre of clomazone.

The new active ingredient is effective against cleavers, chickweed and shepherds purse, says FMCs Simon Leake.

Application dose is very low, 0.33 litres/ha, and the product has no varietal or buffer zone limitations.

“Centium can be mixed with all available pre-emergence herbicide partners to achieve broad spectrum weed control,” says Mr Leake.

It has no restrictions on following crops without the need for ploughing, he adds.

Further winter and spring crops, including pulses and potatoes, should be added to the label later this year and in 2002.
